Day 21 - Ecclesiastes

Day 21 - ECCLESIASTES (The Conclusion of the Whole Matter)
(to check out past posts, click: tonyvicreyes.blogspot.com )

Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God and keep His commandments, For this is man's all.  For God will bring every work into judgment, Including every secret thing, Whether good or evil.  (Ecclesiastes 12:13-14)

Although writing under divine inspiration, when Solomon penned those words in the above quote, he was also writing as a man who had experienced life unlike any other person who ever lived.  Chosen by God before birth to become king after his father David, Solomon received from God upon his request wisdom beyond that possessed by any man who lived before him and after him.

Wanting more than unmatched wisdom, Solomon departed from God’s commandments and did not hold back from himself any pleasure life had to offer.  Despite God’s explicit instructions not to multiply his wives, Solomon acquired 700 wives and 300 concubines.  Adding to his sins, Solomon also worshipped the idols of his heathen wives.

Scholars believe that Solomon wrote Ecclesiastes towards the end of his life and so it is logical to conclude that he repented and returned to worshipping the true God.  Let the wise person heed the last words of a man like Solomon who did not leave any stone unturned in his search for the meaning of life.
