Day 33 - Nahum

Day  33 - NAHUM (Is God your Stronghold or your Downfall?)
(to check out past posts, click: tonyvicreyes.blogspot.com )

The Lord is good, A stronghold in the day of trouble; And He knows those who trust in Him.  But with an overflowing flood He will make an utter end of its place, And darkness will pursue His enemies.  (Nahum 1:7-8)

We’ve all had an authority over us such as a teacher or a police officer stopping us for a driving violation and we know better not to be on the wrong side of that person’s good graces.  The Bible says that God is the ultimate authority over all of creation.  The text above affirms the goodness of the Lord to those who trust and obey Him but the verse before that says:

“Who can stand before His indignation? And who can endure the fierceness of His anger? His fury is poured out like fire, And the rocks are thrown down by Him.”  (Nahum 1:6)

I don’t know about you, but I would never want to be on the side of God’s anger.  Call it my fear of God but I believe that it is the kind of fear that God wants all of mankind to have towards Him.  Don’t get me wrong, I am not afraid of God as a lot of religious people are - all they know about God is that He is a God of wrath and not of love.  Ask any Muslim if their God loves them and you will know what I am talking about.

The best way I can describe the true believer’s fear of God is this:  it is like the fear of a child for his earthly father who loves him and cares only for his good; that child has no doubt that his father loves him and is not afraid to approach him but he knows very well not to do wrong because he will become the object of his father’s anger.  Do you have this kind of healthy fear of your heavenly Father?
